Dr. Peter Beyersdorff – a Life Dedicated to Naturopathy
To promote and further develop naturopathy as a vital objective was Dr. Peter Beyersdorff’s vision and passion. With his unexpected death at the age of 81 in July 2009, we must bid farewell to the co-founder of PEKANA Naturheilmittel GmbH. His work will, however, live on.
There are people who have the natural talent to evoke positive energies in their fellow human beings. Dr. Peter Beyersdorff was such an inspiring personality. This was immediately noticeable for everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him in person. All his life he used his special gift to serve and promote health – first as a pharmacist and later in the development and manufacture of the homeopathic-spagyric remedies by PEKANA.
Already in the early 1960s, severe, incurable diseases in his personal environment made the young pharmacist Peter Beyersdorff concern himself with finding possible alternatives to the existing supply of medicines. Consequently, within 10 years, he created a range of homeopathic remedies comprising 70 products; in 1975 he was granted the first permit of manufacture issued by the Regional Council Karlsruhe. In the year 1978 Dr. Peter Beyersdorff met his future wife Katharina. From the very start they both shared their intense love of nature and their enthusiasm for manufacturing products of herbal origin. Together, in the early 1980s, they abandoned their safe existence that a pharmacy presented at that time and established PEKANA Naturheilmittel GmbH to deal exclusively with the production of homeopathic-spagyric remedies.
In the subsequent years Dr. Peter Beyersdorff developed PEKANA spagyrics, and the resulting production process that most closely resembles Paracelsian regulations while simultaneously observing the current relevant pharmaceutical regulations. Using this procedure, he managed to retain the full extent of the vital plant energies. This laid the foundation for a holistically applicable homeopathic-spagyric therapy concept. All of the purposefully composed complex remedies by PEKANA display the energetic signature of Dr. Peter Beyersdorff. In 1991 PEKANA spagyrics were included in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia and in 1995 awarded a prize for exemplary performance within the framework of the Innovation Award of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Dr. Peter Beyersdorff’s commitment was never limited to his own company alone. From 1985 to 1995 he was a member of Commission D in the Federal Health Agency in Berlin and as an expert, was involved in the preparation of homeopathic monographs.
Dr. Peter Beyersdorff and his wife Katharina faced and dealt with the challenges presented by a pharmaceutical enterprise early on. The expansion of the facilities in the mid 1990s was followed by the certification pursuant to the GMP standard in 2000, which confirmed a globally approved quality assurance of manufacture. Another confirmation of the company’s consistent approach was the successful inspection by the American Food and Drug Administration in the year 2008.
As co-founder and CEO, Katharina Beyersdorff will lead PEKANA Naturheilmittel GmbH into the future to keep the shared vision alive: PEKANA sustainably promotes the changing awareness of therapists and patients towards homeopathy and spagyrics as part of traditional Western medicine. As a result, traditional Western medicine will become the supporting pillar of a transforming understanding of health and disease.
Many years ago, Dr. Peter Beyersdorff expressed just how equally rewarding and demanding this objective is: “A lot of people – intuitively or consciously – are longing for homeostasis, the basically harmonious processes of their bodily performance. They are in dire need but change is still extremely slow to come.” The energy and passion to advance change will live on in all the people who were inspired by Dr. Peter Beyersdorff through his unique work and creations.
